Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) for Corporates

Current Expected Credit Losses (ASC326) is a topic that has gained increased interest within Corporate Treasury and Accounting as the new standard went into effect this year. The Standard represents an unprecedented shift in the accounting treatment of credit risk and requires wholesale alignment of risk and accounting.

The complexities presented by this new standard have been amplified exponentially by the COVID-19 pandemic and resultant economic shutdowns. A wave of bankruptcies has begun, credit risk is elevated across the board, causing provisions to skyrocket. Adding additional complexity is a lack of clarity from the multiple regulatory bodies on the impact of the current market conditions.

In recent weeks, the Securities and Exchange Commission warned companies against both using results data that doesn't capture adoption of the CECL as well as the risk of using ratings data that tends to lag. Both of these have created increased appetite for appropriate data to measure and quantify Expected Credit Losses.

Join us for a webinar on an all things CECL as we walk through the standard, the data, best practices and points to consider.
