Situation
IIMB introduced its first Bloomberg Terminal in 2005, supporting doctoral researchers who used Bloomberg data for academic work. As interest grew, students and researchers increasingly competed for access.
- IIMB wanted to give more students practical experience with financial data and analytics alongside classroom instruction.
- With limited shared resources, there was no practical way to enrich a broader range of finance courses and programs.
Challenge
With access dependent on a single Bloomberg Terminal, wider student use and curriculum integration was constrained.
- Students and researchers had to schedule time to use the Terminal. Faculty had limited scope to incorporate Bloomberg data and analytics into coursework at scale.
- IIMB wanted to support a growing student population while also expanding practical training across research and executive education.
Solution
In 2015, IIMB’s Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management established a Bloomberg Finance Lab with nine Bloomberg Terminals. Students in Corporate Finance use Bloomberg data, financial statements and market information.
- Courses including Financial Modeling and Financial Markets use Bloomberg analytics for valuation, fixed income, portfolio management and derivatives.
- The Finance Lab is complemented by three Bloomberg Anywhere licenses for faculty and selected students.
- IIMB incorporates Bloomberg into executive programs, as well as two-day workshops for students, faculty and finance professionals from institutions across India.
