Askbnef: Solar’s Surge and State of M&A Activity

Solar installations surged to more than 400GW in 2023 as equipment costs plummeted, ushering in a new era of ultra-low costs and rapid deployment. The wider renewable energy sector also saw record investment levels, and BNEF now forecasts annual solar installations approaching 900GW/year by 2030. On the contrary, buyout activity for utility-scale solar and wind projects has slowed down for a second year in a row. In 2023 almost 88GW of such projects changed hands corresponding to a 22% drop on 2022 levels.  In this AskBNEF session, Lara Hayim and Pietro Radoia, two of our senior solar experts, will join Claire Curry to talk about the outlook for the solar industry in 2024, as well as newly-published findings on the state of renewable energy investment and M&A.
