Paul Cheung

Paul Cheung leads The Center for Public Integrity as CEO to counter the corrosive effects of inequality by using investigative reporting to hold powerful interests accountable and equipping the public with knowledge to drive change.  Previously, he managed a multi-million dollars investment portfolio at the Knight Foundation to scale the use of artificial intelligence, improve business sustainability solutions, and combat misinformation. Cheung has 20 years of experience in leading digital transformation and led cross functional teams of journalists, technologists, data-scientists, and designers, at media outlets including NBC News Digital, The Associated Press, The Miami Herald, and The Wall Street Journal. Cheung is an active volunteer who dedicates his free time to advance DEI in journalism and an informed and engaged democracy. He currently serves on the board of First Draft News, a nonprofit to protect communities from harmful misinformation and News Leaders Association, a nonprofit to empower journalists to lead and transform the news industry. Cheung is a Council member of University of Florida’s Consortium on Trust in Media and Technology, to investigate ways to restore and advance trust in media and technology. He also co-leads the Asian American Journalists Association’s executive leadership program in US and Asia to cultivate diverse journalism leaders. Cheung is a graduate of the 2016 Punch Sulzberger Executive Leadership program at Columbia University and an alumnus of New York University.

Aguil Deng

Aguil Deng is a manager with over 21 years of international development experience, including extensive expertise in advocacy, capacity building, organizational development, program design, business planning, and strategy in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the US. Ms. Deng is the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa (BMIA) Program Manager and oversees Bloomberg’s corporate philanthropy programs in Africa. Ms. Deng is an amateur chef and passionate about African development and lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Paula Fray

Paula Fray is the founding CEO of fraycollege – a pan-African accredited media training organization which focuses on providing practical workplace skills for journalists, communicators and business leaders. The first female editor of the Saturday Star newspaper in South Africa, Fray went on to launch frayintermedia, a content creation agency that specialises in communication strategy development and implementation including the production of development content across platforms. She is President of The New Humanitarian, a Geneva-based news agency, a board member of Africa Check and founding member of Accountability Lab SA. She serves on the board of the Aurum Institute and chairs the board of Youth Health Africa. Fray is a Print and Digital Media SA fellow and a public representative on the Press Council of South Africa. A recipient of the prestigious Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University, she is a former member of the Nieman Foundation Advisory Board at Harvard. Fray graduated with a BJourn degree from Rhodes University and has a Woman and Law Certificate from UNISA.

M. Scott Havens is the Chief Executive Officer of Bloomberg Media, Bloomberg L.P.'s global multi-platform media organization. Since joining the company in November 2015, Scott has played an integral role in the digital transformation and globalization of the Bloomberg Media brand. With his leadership, the company has seen record revenue and audience growth and expanded its global footprint through several impactful partnerships throughout the world. Previously, he was Chief Growth Officer and Global Head of Strategic Partnerships in which he oversaw Bloomberg Media's digital business and platforms, including the growth of Bloomberg Media's consumer revenue and subscriptions, and expansion into over-the-top (OTT) streaming video through Bloomberg TV+ and Bloomberg Quicktake. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Scott was SVP of Digital at Time Inc., where he managed operations and drove the strategic development of digital products within the news, business, sports, and entertainment verticals, including People, Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Entertainment Weekly and other titles. Scott was also previously President of The Atlantic, playing a key role in the successful digital transformation of the magazine, including strategy and operational roles in the digital launches of The Atlantic Wire, Quartz and CityLab, which was acquired by Bloomberg Media in 2019. He served as Executive Director at Condé Nast Business Media and is a founder of the innovative business site Portfolio.com. Scott formerly managed the business development team at Yahoo! Finance. Scott is a graduate of Hamilton College with a BA in Economics and received an MBA in finance from NYU’s Stern School of Business. He lives in New Canaan, CT with his wife and three children.

Raju Narisetti

Raju Narisetti’s current role as Leader, Global Publishing at McKinsey & Co is the latest in a 32-year global career in media and publishing, during which he has created, reimagined and managed major media organizations in North America, Europe and Asia, as well as being on the frontlines of digital transformation challenges and new ventures in publishing. Raju worked as a journalist at The Wall Street Journal where, over 14 years, he went from a Reporting Intern to be the Editor of WSJ Europe, and later Managing Editor, Digital, of the global WSJ, and part of a team that won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News for 9/11 coverage. At The Washington Post, Raju was the Managing Editor who helped start and shape the newspaper's print/digital transformation. At both WSJ and Washington Post, Raju was the youngest and first person of color on their mastheads. Raju is also the founder of Mint (livemint.com), India's business news brand. After his journalism stint, as a media business executive, he was Senior Vice President of Strategy for News Corp, and later CEO of the Gizmodo Media Group, which then encompassed a group of digital journalism sites that included Gizmodo, The Onion, Jezebel, DeadSpin, Lifehacker, and The Root. Prior to joining McKinsey in 2020, he was a journalism educator, leading the Knight Bagehot Fellowships in Economics and Business Journalism at Columbia University, where he also was a Professor of Professional Practice at the School of Journalism. An alum of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leader cohort, Raju is also a Board Trustee of the Wikimedia Foundation, which oversees and supports the global Wikimedia platform, and where he heads the Talent & Culture Committee.
