Teymur Abasguliyev

Mr Teymur Abasguliyev is the Group CFO for SOCAR Turkey, a Holding company and a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), the largest investor in the Turkish economy. He has over 20 years of diverse experience in various segments of energy business. In his current tenure, he has been providing financial oversight and leadership over portfolio with a combined investment value over $10 bln, comprised of both mature and greenfield businesses. His responsibilities and focus areas at the group level include leading strategic and transformative initiatives, optimizing capital structure, sustainability and maximizing value of the Group’s portfolio. Prior to his appointment to this position, Mr Abasguliyev was a partner with the energy group of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Central and Eastern Europe. Mr Abasguliyev is a fellow member of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

SELVA BAHAR BAZIKI

Türkiye and Sweden Economist

Selva Bahar Baziki is the Türkiye and Sweden economist for Bloomberg Economics. Previously, Selva was the Director of Macro Financial Analysis at the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye and worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, USA and the Research Institute of Industrial Economics, Sweden. Selva holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Uppsala University, Sweden, a B.A. in Economics from Bryn Mawr College, USA and is a graduate of Robert College, Istanbul. Her research focuses on the interaction of the macro economy with empirical banking, international finance, and trade.

After receiving a double major in Finance and Business Administration at the Florida International University in the USA, he has completed an MBA at the University of Miami in the same departments. He has started his career at Laurel Oak Financial Services. Between 2005 and 2009, he has served as the Director at Morgan Stanley, USA, and then as the Project Director at NextEra Energy in Miami, USA between 2009 and 2012. In 2012 he has returned to Turkey and continued his career as the Project Finance and Commercial Director until 2014 in TANAP, Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project, one of the most important projects in the field of energy carried out with success so far by Turkey and Azerbaijan. After that, he has carried out duty as the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) in SOCAR Turkey. Küpeli serves as the CEO and the Member of the Board of Aydem Enerji since 2018.

Karim Sawabini

Karim is a partner/portfolio manager at Moon Capital covering emerging markets. He has worked with John Moon since 2003 when he joined Oaktree Capital Management’s Emerging Market Fund as an analyst. Prior to that, he worked for Morgan Stanley for three years in the Investment Banking Division in the Global Communications and Media Group. Karim began his career in the Investment Banking Division of J.P. Morgan & Co. in the Financial Institutions Group. He received a B.S. degree in International Business and Finance, with a minor in Economics, from Georgetown University.

Can Selçuki holds a MSc degree in Economics from University Bocconi. Before co-founding Istanbul Economy, a public opinion and big data firm, Can worked as an economist at the World Bank Ankara Office working both with the public and private partners in private sector development. His work at the World Bank focused on regional development, competition and innovation policies. Prior to working at the World Bank, Can worked as an economics researcher at the Brussels based think tank the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) for three years. He is the author of several papers and reports on trade competitiveness, regional development and innovation policy in Turkey. He is frequent commentator on Turkey and the region in print and visual media such as BBC World and FT and regularly writes on Turkish economy and politics in Turkish and international print such as Foreign Policy.

Osman Sert is Research Director at Ankara Institute and PanoramaTR, Turkey. As a graduate of International Relations - Middle East Technical University, he was a journalist and covered economy, Prime Minister’s office and diplomacy respectively, conducting several interviews with world leaders and ministers, traveled conflict zones. He was a diplomatic editor at CNN Türk and Jerusalem Bureau Chief of TRT. He served as chief advisor of Ahmet Davutoglu, Minister of Foreign Affairs (2009-2014), Prime Minister (2014-2016) of Turkey. He is attending Al Jazeera, BBC and likewise international media outlets. He is editor of perspektif.online, Turkish website pluralist academic digital discussion platform. He is a columnist at Karar daily.

Viktor Szabó is an Investment Director on the Emerging Market Debt Team at abrdn. Viktor joined the company via the acquisition of certain asset management businesses from Credit Suisse Asset Management in 2009. Previously, Viktor worked for Credit Suisse Asset Management Hungary as country Chief Investment Officer. Prior to that, Viktor worked for the National Bank of Hungary as the Head of Market Analysis team. Viktor graduated with an MSc in Economics from the Corvinus University of Budapest. Viktor is a CFA Charterholder and has a Certificate in ESG Investing.
