Heavy industry has one of the toughest paths to net-zero emissions, but decarbonization activity is rising in Europe and North America. Progress in emissions reduction initiatives also vary widely across sectors, with aluminum and steel producers moving faster compared to others. While supportive policies are crucial to kickstart industrial decarbonization, the new US government has paused several funding programs for such projects and could potentially stop many of these schemes earlier than expected. However, markets in Europe and Asia are still pushing ahead with some $117 billion in new funding earmarked for clean manufacturing through schemes announced in the first three months of 2025. For this AskBNEF Claire Curry will be joined by the Head of Sustainable Materials, Allen Tom Abraham, and green steel analyst, Yuchen Tang, to discuss recent progress in industrial decarbonization and where we are with supportive policies and investment trends.
