Australia’s Opportunity to Shift From Laggard to Leader in Global Electric Vehicle Race

The decarbonization of Australia’s road transport sector has been stuck in the slow lane. A lack of political will to act on vehicle emissions has resulted in one of the most polluting vehicle fleets in the world. Plus, local supply for zero-emission vehicles has lagged demand, resulting in low uptake. The election of the Labor government has brought with it an ambitious short-term decarbonization target for 2030, and a new imperative to decarbonize transport. The government is hoping a new vehicle emission standard can alleviate supply constraints and usher in a boom era for zero-emission vehicle sales.

Join BloombergNEF’s research team for a webinar exploring the opportunities created by the decarbonization of the road transport sector. Senior Associate Allen Tom Abraham will offer an international perspective on what Australia can learn from global leaders on vehicle emissions standards. Associate Will Edmonds will draw on the 2022 Australia Road Transport Outlook to explore the local impacts regulation and economics can have on zero-emission vehicle uptake, power infrastructure and emissions.
