China Luxury Spending Tracks Asset Prices Not Wages Into 2027: BI Webinar
Chinese luxury buying will likely track asset prices, not wages into 2027. BI's August survey of 1,000 affluent mainland consumers shows the price-appreciation motive doubling to 30% while the income motive more than halved to 12% — and fell to 17% from 48% in megacities. Into 2027, that means a jewelry trough on price held up by asset-rich Gen X, no new watch buyers to rescue Richemont's mid-tier, bag demand leaking to daigou and understating reported China comps, and premium outdoor growth migrating to lower-tier cities. Join BI analysts Catherine Lim, Deborah Aitken, Andrea Ferdinando Leggieri and Abigail Gilmartin on which brands hold value and which get repriced — Richemont, LVMH, Kering, Chanel, Rolex, Swatch Group, Chow Tai Fook, Laopu Gold, Amer Sports, Anta and Moncler.
